No matter what your opinion is of Hizballah, there is no denying that their popularity in Lebanon has risen after their perceived victory in this war. Even if they had lost the war, the fact that they stood up to the might of the Israeli army for 34 days was an achievement in itself. Many people already had a grudging respect and maybe a secret admiration for Hizballah and their leader for their discipline and organiztion. They had their own social service system, their own medical care system, their own charity system, their own schooling system. They took care of their people, some would say better than the Lebanese government took care of the rest of the population. However, during the war we heard much from the Israelis and the Bush administration about the indiscriminate shooting of rockets from Hizballah. But was it really indiscriminate shooting? Take a look at this article: www.counterpunch.org/cook08092006.html.
