This is a letter to my senator to send out in tomorrow's mail. I'm posting my letters here so that in case you, too, are composing, or considering, writing letters of your own, you will know that you are not alone. Also to let our friends in Lebanon know that there are voices here crying out on their behalf.

Dear Senator Hutchinson,
I just found the site vote-smart.org . I applaud its fair treatment of issues and candidates. I urge you to participate in its efforts fully.
It was through this site that I found your address “Condemning Hezbullah” on July 17, 2006.
I disagree with your assessment and analysis of the situation, even at that early stage. I take exception to the factual content of your statement that Israel has always proceeded with a “commitment to freedom and liberty.” There can be no doubt the Palestinians living in Gaza and elsewhere in Israel would disagree they reside under the rule of a country so shining an example as you professed.
We do not need rash statements such as yours in these times (inappropriately inserted during other important debates, I might add). Statements such as yours simply continue to fuel the perception of a great many (and growing) portion of the world’s population that the United States has no interest in basic human rights except those of our favored allies.
The global community and I implore you to re-assess your support and esteemed view of the actions of Israel in Lebanon.
Sincerely,
